New Scottish Arts is Scotland’s leading Christian arts ministry. Since its foundation over 15 years ago we have presented over 300 events to over
40,000 people. New opportunities, challenges and needs are arising that NSA is uniquely positioned to meet through the creativity of sharing the Christian faith through the arts.
New Scottish Arts is an arts outreach & education ministry. Our purpose is to serve the Christian community in Scotland by facilitating and enabling Christians to share their faith through the creative arts, by maintaining and developing vibrant, cutting-edge Outreach Events and Projects that will impact on local Communities and the whole of Scotland.
We seek to establish ourselves as a national umbrella organisation that encourages and enables other arts organisations in Scotland. We are in a unique position to be able to support and network with the various leaders already sharing through the arts so we can increase the resources, the quality and the impact of the arts in Scotland.
THE STATION
We prayed for a building for £1 a year to be a ‘home’ for NSA. We are blessed to have exactly this answer to prayer in the form of a facility at Dundee train station. We have secured £92,000 and a contractor to develop The Station into a rehearsal space with a café, office and storage facilities. This is an exciting project where we can have a Christian venue and exhibition space right opposite the new V & A Museum beside the Discovery. The potential is huge!
YOUTH EDUCATION AND OUTREACH PROGRAMME
Currently we reach a large number of young people (70 per year) through our Music Camp in association with SU Scotland. We plan to establish ways of encouraging these young people on an on-going basis after camp is over. We will also increase our contact with young creative people through regular workshop and events. We will encourage and mentor these young people through the New Scottish Youth Choir, New Scottish Youth Orchestra, New Scottish Youth Theatre, School projects, Intermission (a unique year out team passionate about challenging people to understand God’s mission for them and His world, through music, drama and word) and also through the New Scottish Youth Bands in Aberdeen, Glasgow, Edinburgh and Dundee. 5 of these 8 groups have already held pilot events and we see this as our most important area to develop and resource.
